Nowadays the divinely ordained institution of the family is under attack like never before. The greatest earthly enemy of the Biblical family is the totalitarian state. Consequently, a book which outlines the Scriptural teaching concerning the role of the family and parental rights is precisely what we need to equip us to combat the foe of Statist tyranny. Ray Sutton provides us with such a volume in Who Owns the Family? God or the State?

As part of the excellent Biblical Blueprints Series, this book lays down the Scriptural teaching concerning the sovereignty of God over the family, the Biblical role of this institution, the need for the discipline of children and education in a comprehensive Christian worldview, as well as the necessity of providing faithful covenant children with an inheritance. Moreover, Ray Sutton demonstrates how the modern state attacks the family through its humanistic education, its oppressive (i.e. Marxist) taxation of income and inheritance (if you don’t believe me read The Communist Manifesto) - inheritance tax in particular is a great wickedness - the promotion of sexual perversion and abortion, and “cradle to the grave” security via Statist welfare and healthcare.

It is very interesting to note how the role of the family is being subtely undermined by the state, yet, sadly, the church has sat idly by while our liberty has been eroded as a result of Statist oppression. Thankfully, Rev. Sutton provides us with clear blueprints for reconstruction, so that we can (by God’s grace) build strong Christian families, and, in turn, a Christian civilization. While I might not necessarily agree with everything Ray Sutton says here, nonetheless, the reading of his book is of vital importance in understanding the issues at stake in the battle for the family.
